Miss Beckel's 4th & 5th Grade

Spelling

Every Monday, students will be given a list of 20 spelling words.  From a list of 20 spelling activities, students will choose 4 activities to complete each week (one each for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.)  They will complete these 4 activities by Friday, staple them altogether, and turn the whole packet in to the appropriate homework tray.  Each spelling activity will be worth 5 points, so the students have a chance to earn 20 points total on their spelling packets.

Students are not to repeat the same activity in a spelling packet (for example, a student cannot use their spelling words to create 2 word searches and 2 trace-arounds.)  They must pick 4 completely different activities for each spelling packet.  However, if a student would prefer to complete the same 4 activities each week, that's perfectly fine.  (For example, a student could complete an ABC order activity, a trace-around activity, a poem, and a bookmark every single week.)  The point of these spelling packets is for the students to practice writing their words in different ways in order to prepare for their test.

Every Friday, students will be given an oral spelling test based on the words they have worked with all week long; this test will be worth 100 points.

Here is a wonderful website called www.spellingcity.com.  Each week, I will upload the students' spelling lists and the students can play games and quiz themselves over their particular spelling words.  You can find our class spelling lists by simply clicking on "Find a List" and typing in my name: Candace Beckel.  When the lists appear, be sure to click on the correct week and your child's grade (for example: one list might be titled "4th Grade - Week of Jan. 5-9.")
